Metro's Most Influential Women - Vote 04-17.03.11


The Metro newspaper (27/02/11) is running an influential women’s pole from March 4 to March 17, it will feature 40 photos of the women who have shaped the lives of generations in the past 100 years. They include figures from a number of diverse fields, such as politics, business, sport, the arts and science.

Together with the Greater London Authority and the Press Association, Metro is staging an exhibition at London’s City Hall to celebrate the centenary of International Women’s Day. Boris Johnson, the mayor of London, said: ‘I am delighted to stage this exciting exhibition to celebrate the centenary of International Women’s Day. The outstanding women featured provide a snapshot of the pivotal roles London’s women play in every part of the capital’s life.’

Those included have been listed for their groundbreaking contributions made in their fields such as; London-born singer-songwriter Leona Lewis, MIA (singer/rapper), Zadie Smith (Author), Vanessa-Mae (Violinist), Vivienne Westwood (Designer), Virginia Woolf (Author), and Tracey Emin (Artist). Calling for photo submissions of breakdancers from around the globe
The guys at earthwalkersmag are running a project feature dancers from around the world in appreciation for dance and keeping the breakdancing scene alive. They are looking to feature some of the greatest, and also showcase the up-and-coming.
Interested? Simply send still photos of individual dancers and/or groups shot at noticeable places/landmarks that showcase their country. Photos should be portrait style or amazing candid shots. For more details click here

I remember the first time I heard Kadija was at a Spotlight showcase, where I had the pleasure of interview her with her band after their performances, and loved her voice instantly so am very excited about her new EP and launch.

Juliet Kelly starts 2011 packed with dates for her UK tour inspired by Divas in Jazz. 

WOW – WOMEN OF THE WORLD @ South Bank 11-13/03/11



The new women’s festival WOW (Women of the World), is the the brainchild of Dame Jude Kelly, Artistic Director at London’s Southbank Centre. This exciting event is launching this March, the annual festival is not just about women in music but women across a huge variety of artistic, scientific and social disciplines.
“WOW is a joyous celebration of the formidable strength and inventiveness of women,” says Jude. “A pioneering, groundbreaking annual festival, which will present, recognise and celebrate women, and act as a conversation space for issues of all kinds. Through a series of debates, conversations, networking opportunities, presentations, showcases and places to meet and talk, WOW celebrates the potential and achievement of women and addresses some of the obstacles that women face across the world.”
WOW runs over three days from 11-13 March, current confirmed artist's are Annie Lennox, Imogen Heap, Emmy The Great, VV Brown, Speech Debelle, Paloma Faith, Kate Nash and Micachu, plus many more to be announced.

Questionnaire: Female Rappers & Representations



Came across this twit post via @Spotlghtpresent about a questionannire looking at female rappers and their representation in the industry; 'to determine whether modern day female rappers are a positive representation of women in contemporary society'.

The questionnaire is carried out by a Brunel University Student and they are interested in folks aged 17 - 30, to answer short & confidential questionnaire on female rappers.
